Grizzly Red

  • In 2015, a committee consisting of community members, coaches, administration and a couple of school board members met to discuss the unification of the school colors at Newport High School.  Various versions and interpretations of the color crimson and/or red appeared on uniforms, the halls of the school, and on various school publications.

The committee unanimously chose a color that has been identified as “grizzly red”.  Over the next several years, the maroon/burgundy/crimson colors used on uniforms and in the building are being phased out as new uniform purchases and paint jobs occur.

Our current letter that is awarded for athletic and academic achievement is a dark crimson color.  Because parents and students enjoy purchasing letterman jackets, it is important that the jacket they purchase match the letter given by the school.

For the 2016-17 school year, Newport High School gave a choice of the current dark crimson or the new “grizzly red” letter to athletes and scholars who earn them.  Beginning with the 2017-18 school year, Newport High School will be awarding only letters that are aligned with our school color of “grizzly red”.

    Go Griz!
